Operational and strategic decisions for production and maintenance of plants require an updated and reliable knowledge of the current state of the production plants. Information processing with high developed hardware and software may support this work by using so-called operation management and process monitoring systems. Information of operation management and process monitoring is used for observation, optimisation and control of processes and their plant management. The standard covers the management of plants for energy production and distribution as well as plants of public utilities and waste management industry. The standard describes benefits, users, functions and interfaces of the elements of operation management and process monitoring. The standard serves users as a guide for the tender specification and the implementation of operation management and process monitoring. For providers of information systems, this standard can be useful for the design of systems and subsystems and to define and design interfaces.
