Marc Thielen, Georg Bold and Thomas Speck from the Plant Biomechanics Group in Freiburg, Germany - are organizing the symposium I3 "Bio-Inspired Materials" at the EUROMAT2019 conference, to be held in Stockhom (Sweden) from September 1st to 5th. Deadline for abstract submission is January 31st, 2019. You are cordially invited to present your work to an international, wide-ranging expert audience and to meet many inspirational People on the premier international congress in the field of materials science and technology in Europe


The EUROMAT2019 congress venue from September 1st to 5th will be the Stockholm City Conference Centre. Sweden has a long tradition in manufacturing and application of advanced materials. Materials Science is therefore an important field of research and technological development in Sweden with involvement of both academia and industry. Being the host for EUROMAT2019, the Swedish Society for Materials Technology (SFMT) has the vision to:


  • Facilitate a programme where academia, research institutes and industry can meet and exchange ideas and provide information on the latest scientific development
  • Promote involvement of top universities and researchers in materials science including special contribution from large scale facilities like MAXIV in Lund
  • Demonstrate efficient knowledge transfer between research and its application through the active involvement of research institutes on Sweden like RISE and Swerea
  • Develop the involvement of Nordic countries in FEMS and EUROMAT
  • Strengthen the EUROMAT2019 concept through its co-operation with Royal Academy of Engineering Sciences


Prof. Thomas Speck, Functional Morphology & Biomimetics and Botanic Garden, University of Freiburg, Germany and presenter of EUROMAT section 13, is member of the jury of the International Bionic Award which is endowed by Schauenburg-Foundation and will be awarded by VDI The Association of German Engineers. Together with Marc Thielen and George Bold both from University of Freiburg, Thomas Speck will present his own section on "Bio-Inspired-Materials"
