This standard describes in a compact form tasks and requirements for processing media. The revision of the existing standard was necessary due to the significant expansion of the former DIN 51385 with the new title "processing fluids" and the inclusion of forming lubricants, multifunctional fluids and processing media for the low quantity lubrication. The fundamentally revised standard provides users of metal working fluids, in particular machine manufacturers and manufacturing technologists, with a much more extensive material- and technically-based decision-making assistance in the selection of now four described processing media.
