The guideline deals with the effect of damping and its characterisation by means of mathematic models.It starts with material damping, before dealing with the damping of components and assemblies. The guideline also deals with special damping effects: damping in joints between components and assemblies; damping due the fluids surrounding the oscillator and damping by local displacement of liquids between components.
