Building of Data Ecosystems: Exploring Catena-X, Pontus-X and data connectors
Beschreibung
In today’s interconnected digital world, data ecosystems are improving how industries share and collaborate on data. This presentation introduces the concepts of data spaces and data rooms, explaining their purpose, importance, and applications. These secure environments enable organizations to share data seamlessly while ensuring control, privacy, and regulatory compliance.
Key enabling technologies, such as Eclipse Data Connectors (EDC), the Ocean Protocol used in Pontus-X, and the Asset Administration Shell (AAS), will be explored. These technologies drive secure data exchanges, decentralized architectures, and privacy-preserving processes, supporting data sovereignty and interoperability. By leveraging these technologies, organizations can unlock the full potential of their data assets without compromising security.
The presentation also showcases major initiatives like Catena-X, with its Tractus-X software library, Pontus-X, Robot-X, and Fraunhofer IESE’s "AAS for Everybody" project. The Fraunhofer IESE approach emphasizes making AAS accessible to all stakeholders, enabling streamlined integration and fostering innovation within data ecosystems. These projects exemplify the practical implementation of data ecosystems, addressing challenges in interoperability, sustainability, and innovation. Special attention is given to the role of EDC and AAS in fostering collaboration and ensuring scalable solutions.
The session culminates with a demons-tration of our team’s EDC implementation, showcasing its behaviour in conjunction with EDC sequence diagrams. This demonstration highlights how EDC operates within data-sharing workflows and supports the efficient execution of modern data ecosystems.
This presentation offers an accessible overview of the technical and practical aspects of data ecosystems, aiming to inform and engage anyone interested in understanding how to build collaborative, secure, and sustainable data-sharing environments.
