This standard applies to natural and mechanical smoke removal systems in closed garages, automatic garages are not covered. The standard is limited exclusively to garages for passenger cars. Ancillary areas (e. g. storage rooms) are not dealt with. Smoke removal is of central importance for fire-fighting in garages. This standard supports the self-rescue of people, the support of the fire brigade in firefighting, and the protection of property with the aspects described. When applying this standard, a comparison with the current, locally applicable regulations (garage regulations of the federal states) is essential. Use in accordance with the planning and permit is a prerequisite. The standard is intended for building owners, specialist planners, plant constructors, operators, manufacturers, technical experts, approval authorities, fire brigades, occupational safety, and insurance companies.
