This expert recommendation applies to all laboratories and measuring institute operating in Germany that carry out olfactometric measurements in accordance with DIN EN 13725. It must be taken into account when determining the measurement uncertainty of olfactometric emission measurements and replaces chapter 10.2 of DIN EN 13725, in particular with regard to the calculation of the measurement uncertainty. Method A6 measurement results of identical duplicate odorous gas samples with identical measuring equipment of DIN EN ISO 20988 for environmental samples is to be applied unchanged. The duplicate determination with n-butanol is omitted. In this context, further standard uncertainty components given by type B evaluations are also not taken into account.

In the short term, the expert recommendation is intended to ensure a uniform calculation of the measurement uncertainty that does not contradict DIN EN ISO 20988 and VDI 4219 for the transitional period until the revised standard VDI 3884 Part 1 is published. For better readability, the revised wording of chapter 10.2 is reproduced in full in section 5 of this expert recommendation, even if there are not changes in all parts.
