- Abstract
-
This standard applies to natural smoke ventilation and mechanical smoke extraction systems in closed garages, automatic garages are not covered. Garages are buildings or parts of buildings that are used to park motor vehicles. The standard is limited exclusively to garages for passenger cars. Ancillary areas (e.g. storage rooms) are not dealt with. The smoke extraction supports personal protection, property protection and the fire brigadeʼs extinguishing attack. It has to be checked on a case-by-case basis which subtasks/protection goals are to be given priority. Additional issues such as the ventilation of garages are not dealt with in this standard. The ventilation of garages is discussed in standard VDI 2053 Part 1. When applying this standard, a comparison with the current, locally applicable regulations (garage regulations of the federal states) is essential. Use in accordance with the planning and permit is a prerequisite. The standard is intended for building owners, specialist planners, plant constructors, operators, manufacturers, technical experts, approval authorities, fire brigades, occupational safety and insurance companies.
