Abstract
The aim of this guideline is to present the details essential for the design of idler rolls and the dimensioning of their roll distances. For special applications, special bulk material properties and ambient conditions, more comprehensive considerations and further information and calculations may sometimes be necessary. This is the case, for example, when determining different idler roll distances where the belt sag must not exceed a certain maximum value, or for idler rolls at feeding points where it may be necessary to allow for the impact energy resulting from handling of material lumps and from the increased load acting within the acceleration zone.This document applies to the bulk material belt conveyors described in the VDI guidelines.
