Abstract
Local cold air can significantly modify the local climate under suitable weather conditions and is becoming increasingly important as a result of projected climate change, as it can reduce the night-time air temperature in residential areas in low-wind, low-cloud weather conditions.This standard describes the scientific principles and presents a methodology based on physical approaches for the initial assessment of the relevance and impact of cold air processes. This makes it possible to deal with the topic of "local cold air" in spatial and environmental planning in a professional manner and also to fulfil the formal legal quality requirements of building and environmental protection legislation. The standard thus enables climate experts, regional and urban planners to objectively assess the steps necessary for the corresponding consideration process regarding the formation, dynamics and effect of local cold air.
