Abstract
The causes for the failure of materials and components should be uncovered by failure analysis. The resulting findings form the basis of targeted measures for the damage remedy and prevention. One of the main tasks of failure analysis is the selection of appropriate examination procedures and the scientifically based and comprehensive evaluation of the results. The standard describes the different types of failures, the failure symptoms, the causes of failures and failure progression in case of corrosion that occur in, for the most part, aqueous electrolytes at temperatures generally below their boiling points.
