Abstract
The standard defines terms, identifies and describes types of failures, conducts a systematic approach to failure analysis, ensures comparability of the results of different investigative bodies and creates conditions for comprehensible documentation. The user of the standard is provided with typical failure symptoms, failure descriptions and failure mechanisms to be compared with the case of damage to be analysed. The findings are immediately applicable to quality assurance, serve for the prevention of failures and initiate targeted developments.
