Abstract
More than 14 million tonnes of household waste are generated annually in Germany. In addition to waste prevention, waste separation and recycling disposal, mechanical biological treatment and thermal waste treatment remain important methods to treat waste. The selection of appropriate waste treatment process is complex and depends on many parameters. The standard provides an overview of scientific and technical assessment methods for waste treatment processes, their application and comparability as well as their appropriate assessment method for specific waste issues. The application of this standard helps making an objective decision for a waste treatment process assessment, while focusing on sustainable development.
