Abstract

The term combined heat and power (CHP) refers to all processes in which several target energies are simultaneously generated in an energy plant from the energy supplied. The combined generation, conversion or transformation of two or more target energies of different values can lead to primary energy savings as well as a reduction in emissions and system costs. However, this presupposes that the target energies generated are actually utilised. Only the simultaneous consideration of the producer and consumer situation allows conclusions to be drawn about the efficiency of the coupled generation or conversion. This standard therefore deals with both time-based and period-based allocations of fuels, costs and emissions. The standard describes the assessment of the efficiency of combined generation or conversion of different target energies and the presentation of different methods for allocation and thus builds on the principles and examples in VDI 4608 Part 1. Based on three selected systems for the combined generation of the target energies electricity and heat, the application of the allocation methods and the resulting results and conclusions are presented. In addition to the allocation methods described in the previous edition of the standard, the "Finnish method" in particular has been added.
