In the field of technology, boundary layer functionalizations are an essential part of a very wide range of products and applications. In the field of biomimetics, the riblet effect (reduction of friction after the model shark skin) and the Lotus Effect® (self-cleaning after the model lotus plant)are the most well-known effects. These effects, which influence the flow of fluids, have the potential to save energy when applied to transportation and motion systems.
