Abstract
Sufficient reliability avoids functional failures that could result in property damage and/or personal injury. The manufacturer is liable for these consequences (product liability). The legally justified claims can, in the worst case, jeopardise the existence of a company. These potentially serious consequences urge the consistent application and development of reliability technology.In practice, there are various issues where proof of reliability hardly seems possible under practical conditions. The expert recommendations provides guidelines on how a practically orientated proof of reliability can be provided that is nevertheless reliable.In the case of proof of reliability, there is not only a general documentation obligation for safety-relevant failures, but this also applies to the solutions proposed in this expert recommendation. The expert recommendation deals with the challenges of proof of reliability. However, it does not address product quality. It is aimed at development and test engineers, quality managers and all persons involved in the process of product reliability and product safety.
