The series of standards VDI/VDE 3695 is intended to be a support for engineering organizations (EO) in their technical, organizational and economic environment. On the basis of their classification according to a list of criteria, measures can be determined and selected to help the targeted development of the EO. This series of standards supports organizations in assessing their own current situation, it gives advice on what target statuses might be desirable under the given constraints and conditions of the organization, it points out possible ways (suitable or necessary measures) towards the desired target statuses, it explains the causal dependencies between measures and the necessary prerequisites that make these measures work correctly, and it demonstrate which costs, risks, and chances are linked to introducing a measure. This standard describes the means and concepts of an EO, which are available to it in all phases of the life cycle of a plant, in order to realize on the one hand certain customer requirements (e.g. favourable price, flexible towards extensions, easy to maintain) and on the other hand to make the engineering process as efficient as possible.
