In environmental simulation, product qualification is used to determine the influences of the environment on the service life and functionality of technical products and to qualify the changes in these characteristics. The effects of environmental influences caused, for example, by particles and dusts (e. g. abrasion) are simulated using specific test dusts. Many of the test dusts used are standardized in international standards. However, detailed information, e. g. on mineralogical and chemical composition, is missing there. This information is crucial for the properties of a test dust and thus for their behavior or their respective test suitability. Since the results of product testing serve as a basis for investment and (safety) decisions, the results are relevant from a business and possibly macroeconomic point of view. This standard gives minimum requirements for a test certificate for test dusts in terms of content and form, which are generally necessary for a sufficient description of the properties of a test dust. On the basis of such a test certificate, the suitability of a dust for the respective application can be assessed. It is also possible to produce synthetic test dusts that are clearly described in terms of their properties and can be reproduced at any time, adapted to specific environmental conditions.
