Abstract
Facing the challenges of resource scarcities and climate change the provision of energy and the generation of products from renewable resources - and thus the biorefinery concept - have become increasingly important. This standard classifies biorefinery concepts and provides a standardised basis for the characterisation of biorefineries in terms of technological, environmental, economic and social criteria.
