Abstract
The expert recommendation serves as assistance and guidance for applying for a test permit for vehicles with automated and autonomous driving functions (SAE Level 3 and 4). It provides research institutions, colleges or universities and individuals/institutions without an OEM background with a summary of the process. Similarly, this expert recommendation can also be used by testing organisations, the approval authorities responsible under state law/Die Autobahn GmbH des Bundes (the federal motorway company) and, more generally, by all applicants. The expert recommendation outlines the process steps that must be followed in accordance with the relevant legislation in order to obtain a test permit and provides practical advice, implementation suggestions and solutions, especially for those who do not have many years of experience with type approval. The guide has been published in identical form as a VDI Expert Recommendation and a TÜV Association Information.
