This standard applies to plants for melting glass and to the storage, processing, and mixing of raw materials and cullet and the transport of the batch to the melting furnace. Furthermore, the standard covers the annealing lehrs (annealing furnaces) required for stress relaxation of the glasses and the hot-end coating plants used in the container glassware industry. A distinction is made between plants for the manufacture of container glass, flat glass, continuous filament glass fibres, tableware, special glass types, glass and rock wool, glass frits, and waterglass. The standard does not cover plants for shaping hot glass outside the melting furnace and further processing of the glass and glass items. The current standard does not cover plants for the manufacture of mineral wool (rock wool) melted in cupola furnaces.
