Microbial air pollutants are suspected to transmit diseases resp. cause allergic reactions. Due to that reason, the definition of limit values is discussed. For the emissions and ambient air concentrations of bioaerosols no legislation requirements are given at the moment. Several measurement campaigns and comprehensive studies have been conducted by using different methodologies, without comparable results. This standard constitutes the basis for the validation of the existing standards and guidelines for sampling and analysing of bioaerosols and supplements the series of standards VDI 4252, VDI 4253 and VDI 4257.
