This standard takes current developments into account and describes the individual aspects of an MES as a data hub or as an interoperability manager. Specific requirements for future MES are derived on the basis of individual trends and the resulting real use cases. The standard identifies the areas where new interfaces and new interface requirements for MES are emerging as a result of progressive and continuous digitization in production. It is intended as a guideline for decision-makers, process managers, internal and external service providers, and suppliers of software, hardware, and integration. It thus supplements other parts of the series of standards VDI 5600.
