In the transformation of the energy sector, power-to-X plants are used for sector coupling and, as the name implies, can convert electricity into other energy sources, the "X" in power-to-X. The demand for such plants is increasing and so is the potential number of authorisation procedures. However, it is often unclear to operators how this authorisation procedure works, which laws must be observed and which documents must be submitted. This VDI Expert Recommendation is intended to serve as a practical guide and orientation aid. Regulatory and normative hierarchies are explained and requirements from legal regulations and authorisations are listed as examples.
