This standard describes the design process for modular plants and defines the basic terms for the layout and design of modular plants. It provides guidance for the characterisation, design and construction of modular plants in continuous and discontinuous operation in the pharmaceutical, chemical, biotechnological and petrochemical industries. The aspects described here essentially relate to operational requirements. Requirements for the surrounding infrastructure and various areas of application are specified. Furthermore, this standard specifies the requirements for basic documentation of modular plants. This standard supports operators in formulating the specification of modular elements and their functions so that a targeted selection can be made from the available modular elements. This standard supports manufacturers in the composition and documentation of modular elements so that the widest possible range of possible applications is guaranteed. The standard is aimed at authorities; testing institutes; plant manufacturers, equipment manufacturers, module manufacturers; measurement technology manufacturers; operators; automation companies, system integrators; universities, research institutes; plant planners, planning service providers; logistics, supply chain, utility suppliers (gas, compressed air, etc.).
